Adventures of the pregnant homeless lady...D.C. Week #1

Okey Dokey. We are having a great time, I can't believe it's only 2 weeks into our vacation! We've packed a lot in already, woohoo! Dan and I had a great time on our weekend get away. Philadelphia was awesome. The weather was perfect for walking and it was basically a wonderful time alone. I was terrified of the downtown traffic getting to our hotel, I thought for sure we were going to die. But we managed to live and get checked in. I do not recommend driving in downtown Philly. (Okay, so Dan drove and he was not nervous, I just tried hard not to make scared noises and prayed that we would get to the hotel soon!) The ball game was great, we enjoyed way too much of the local cuisine, and the historical sites were just as cool as we thought they would be. We decided to be a bit spontaneous and follow the road signs to Valley Forge when we left Philadelphia. The drive there was gorgeous and the park was really interesting. Well worth an afternoon, head on out there if you are in the area.

The kids have been enjoying Grandma and Grandpa's house, even chores seem to be more fun here (Aaron asks almost every day if he can vacuum the stairs...funny kid). They have been busy going to the pool, playing games, doing crafts, cooking, and getting spoiled by Grandma...she has lots of treats and loose change.

Dan flew out Tuesday morning and won't be back until next Thursday. He is one of the scout leaders for our church troop and had to chaperone the varsity scouts on their high adventure this week. He will also be doing some house hunting and a little work next week. I think I win on this leg of the adventure! We miss you Dan...see you Thursday!!!

Yesterday we decided to head down to the city and get a taste of history. It was pretty hot so we opted to start with the museums. We only managed to do air and space before the little ones got worn out. They LOVED it and wanted to see every inch of that museum. Fun times. Aaron kept yelling "I see airplanes" everytime he saw an airplane (approximately every 2 seconds). The metro ride was also a big hit...we love trains almost as much as airplanes :-) We'll go back next week to try and catch a few more museums and some monuments...thankfully we have 2 more weeks here so we can take the site seeing nice and slow and leave happy each day, woohoo!

After Grandma took the younger three home for the day Tyler and I headed to the ballpark to watch the Washington Nationals take on the Kansas City Royals. Tyler was super excited to go because Steve Strasburg was pitching. The Nats lost but he says it was still amazing to see Strasburg (9 K's in 6 innings, nice) so it was a good day. On our way in we were stopped by "Tyler the superfan" of the CBS Early Show and our Tyler was interviewed by their Tyler, it was really fun for him.

Kyle just lost a tooth so the tooth fairy was called to make sure she knows where we are and that tomorrow is his birthday. He was pretty determined to get that tooth out before he turned 6 and went right down to the wire, he finally let me pull it at bedtime tonight. We're planning a fabulous birthday with Grandma and Grandpa tomorrow, Daddy will be missed but he took Kyle out for his birthday lunch on Monday before he left so at least they got some alone time.

All in all this leg of the trip has been great. We're glad for the chance to relax and spread out while we can. Fun times in the nation's capital! Have a great day!!!
